About Me: Shelby Johnson

 

  • Introduce yourself. Where are you in life? I am currently in a bizarre place in life, I left living in Vegas with my partner, for us to move in with my parents. We are now living in a van with high hopes of traveling the country. I am a non conventional college student because I am a bit older. I am hoping to graduate Spring 2022.
  • What prompted you to enroll in this course? I needed it for my graphic design degree.
  • Are you a business/marketing major? No I am not.
  • What are you most interested in learning about marketing? Tell why. I am interested in learning how to sell myself and my art.
  • Tell us something you are passionate about outside of college (e.g. I'm trying to be a long distance runner, natural sprinter. Signed up to do my first half-marathon in Corvallis (hopefully in October), have participated in two Hood-to-Coast relays in the last few years, and looking to do the Wild Rogue next. I have played sports since I can remember, and I still play on many sports teams within the community. And cryptocurrency is a year-round obsession, whether I'm playing or traveling for enjoyment. I am always checking the numbers!) I am very passionate about my dog, building my van, and travel! I am hoping to travel as soon as Covid relaxes a bit. I am really hopeful for the future.

In the world of 2021 there is new head turning things happening in marketing 24/7. But one specifically came to mind. The new Nike x Lil Nas X collab. I mean who has not heard about the drama going on between these two? I am interested in this because I frankly find the entire situation slightly hilarious, and completely captivating.   The brand I will speaking about today is Arby's. Arby's has become a meme on social media as of the last few months, with people implying that they are "forced" to eat there. This interests me, honestly, because I find it hilarious and interesting. Arby's was my first job and the way people are making fun of the company on platforms like Tik Tok and Twitter is to funny. Arby's Value proposition is "Inspiring Smiles Through Delicious Experiences". People are saying all kinds of wild things about Arby's. The biggest one that Arby's is "forcing" people to eat their foods, and they are "forcing people" to create advertisements, and that someone bought a TV for $25 and when he plugged it in it was only Arby's ADS.
